On the first drive of the game by the Patriots they started off pretty shaky as Rhamandre Stevenson fumbles the ball around midfield. Then the Patriots struggled on defense as they allowed Pittsburgh’s running game to get going as the Patriots defense couldn’t stop anything on this drive allowing the Steelers Kenneth Gainwell to score on a 1-yard touchdown run to put Pittsburgh up 7-0. On the second drive when the Patriots had the ball, the offensive line struggled as quarterback Drake Maye couldn't move out of the pocket, forcing the team to punt to the Steelers. Pittsburgh was aided by a few penalties on this drive and marched down the field as the first quarter ended. The Steelers would open things up in the second quarter with quarterback Aaron Rodgers hitting DK Metcalf on a 12-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0. However, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye would march his team down the field to answer Pittsburgh’s touchdown as he would hit tight end Hunter Henry for a touchdown on a 5-yard pass to pull within 7 points and trailing Pittsburgh 14-7. The Patriots would hold the Steelers to a three and out on the following possession then they got the ball back pinned deep within their territory. Thats when head coach Mike Vrabel would make a gutsy call at their own 15-yard line on 4 down and inches and the Patriots convert on a pass to Rhamondre Stevenson. New England would go on a seven-minute drive of 17 plays but would come up empty at the end the first half with an interception on a tip ball thrown from quarterback, Drake Maye. The halftime score was Pittsburgh leading 14-7. The third quarter started with the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers throwing an interception to Robert Spillane of the Patriots as he returns it to the 11-yard line. However, this drive would end on another fumble by Rhamondre Stevenson at the goal line turning the ball over. This game by the Patriots was just a sloppy played game, today for the team. The Patriots defense would hold the Steelers after the turnover and get the ball right back but once again, another fumble by a running back wearing a Patriot uniform this time Gibson fumbled on a hit by former Patriot Jabrill Peppers, and Pittsburgh recovered the ball however, the Patriots defense stands tall and holds Pittsburgh to a three and out to get the ball back. Then with the Patriots driving at the end of the third quarter the quarter would end with the Steelers still leading 14-7. Now on another fourth downplay head coach Mike Vrabel would go for it again on fourth down and this would pay dividends as Drake Maye
would hit tight end Hunter Henry for the game tying 16-yard touchdown to even the score. But on the ensuing drive following the touchdown by New England the Steelers would stall out. The Patriots would get the ball back and the seemed to be driving the ball however, another turnover this time by quarterback, Drake Maye. Pittsburgh would march down the field after Drake Maye’s fumble and Aaron Rodgers would hit Calvin Austin for the 21-yard touchdown pass to put the Steelers up 21-14. Quarterback Drake Maye and the Patriots tried to drive down the field for some late heroics however, the drive stalled short as they went for it on fourth and two. New England's quarterback, Drake Maye passes to DeMario Douglas and comes up just short as Pittsburgh took over the ball and would wrap up the win 21-14 over the Patriots.
To sum up this game this game was a very sloppy game for the Patriots too many penalties too many turnovers. Pittsburgh defense was outstanding, putting countless rushes on quarterback Drake Maye accounting for five quarterback sacks and five turnovers by the Patriots. The Patriots still cannot win at home. They are 1-2 for the season and we’ll host the Carolina Panthers next week at home.
